Elisha - Living in the Supernatural
"Living In the Fear of God" II Kings 2:23-25
INTRODUCTION: After receiving a double portion of Elijah's spirit, Elisha begins his ministry by miraculously healing the bad waters of Jericho and delivering them from the curse. Now Elisha's ministry is once again challenged.
I. The city of Bethel ( Hebrew) Beth=House El=God 1. The place of Abrahams sacrifice and prayer meeting (Gen.12:8, 13:3) "...there he (Abram) built an altar unto the LORD, And called upon the name of the LORD."
2. The place of Jacob's Latter Dream (Gen. 28:11-19) "...surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not...how Dreadful is this place! This is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven".
3. The return visit of Jacob after 14 yrs. In Haran (Gen. 35:1-15) "And he (Jacob) built there an altar, and called the place El-beth-el: because there God appeared unto him…."
4. The place (city) where Jereboam (first King of divided Israel) set up a golden calf to worship. (I Kings 12:28-33) "...behold your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the Land of Egypt…" And he (Jereboam) set the one in Bethel…"
The disrespectful children of Bethel
1. The bald headed prophet A. Making fun of people in a politically correct world? B. Self deprecating humor
2. The possibility of a shaved head for mourning purposes 3. Disrespectful children often mimic what they hear at home

- Read Acts 5:1-11 regarding Ananias and Sapphira and discuss v. 11 in the context of today's sermon
- What are the roots of disrespect and how should you deal with it?
- How can we be delivered from a vengeful spirit?
- How did Jesus deal with disrespect shown to Him?
